Camden Council has outlined plans to ban all 'to let' signs in the borough.
'For Sale' and 'To Let' boards are one of the oldest and most important property marketing tools, allowing prospective buyers and renters to know that a property is available. Their use could soon be banned by Camden Council as they call on the government to hand it new powers to ban the advertising of properties for rent and sale.
A consultation earlier this year saw 89% of respondents back plans for a borough-wide ban.
The council wrote to the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government on 27 September requesting consent to ban the boards unless planning permission is sought and issued.
Cllr Danny Beales, Camden Council's planning chief, commented: "It's clear that from our consultation that an overwhelming majority of residents support the change.
"The boards are cluttering our streets, often left for months on end, effectively free advertising."
